Coachella Music Festival

Coachella Festival makes a great use of crowdsourcing and social media to gather the attention of young adults to their yearly festival at Coachella Valley in Indio, California. The festival is a three day event filled with musicians and artists from all over the world. The festival utilizes social media to the best of their ability and it works extremely well.
Tickets for the April 2012 event initially went on sale (pre-sale) in September 2011 and the set aside number of tickets were sold out in a couple of hours; this is without the lineup being posted. The lineup was posted Monday January 9, 2012 and tickets went on sale Friday January 13, 2012 and within minutes they were all sold out. The word of mouth spreads faster than anything, especially throughout the social media.
Once the lineup was posted via Facebook and Twitter users and fellow fans spread the word rapidly through post on their Facebook pages and Twitter accounts. By the time Friday came around people were online awaiting the 10am rush to purchase their tickets. After the tickets were sold out then radio announcements were utilized to advise people that tickets were sold out and the only way in was to win tickets through their promotions.
Coachella’s method of crowdsourcing and social media has been excellent and has gained them an abundance of hype. When the event is under way Coachella is seen on the news and an abundance of video is uploaded onto YouTube. The event has gained momentum from its initial start in ‘90s. The event is now held on two separate weekends due to the major demand for admittance.
